University of Coimbra launches PhD programme to train the next generation of neuroscientists
The International Doctoral Programme in Integrative Neuroscience will be holding an online recruitment day for students on the 24th of February 2025. Registration is open until 14 February.
The Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra (CNC-UC) is launching the International Doctoral Programme in Integrative Neuroscience (idpIN), designed for students and researchers from different fields, including biology, biomedicine, engineering, psychology and related disciplines. The idpIN is hosted by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra (iiiUC).
The programme is coordinated by Ana Luísa Carvalho, professor at the Department of Life Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology and coordinator of the Neuroscience and Disease area at CNC-UC, and Cristina Márquez, ERA Chair holder in Neural Circuits of Social Behaviour at CNC-UC.
According to Ana Luísa Carvalho, this doctoral programme "brings together the outstanding scientific community in neuroscience in Coimbra and represents an opportunity for students seeking comprehensive training in neuroscience, state-of-the-art experimental and computational skills, as well as the development of critical thinking and autonomy to pursue their future projects".
The new PhD programme aims to train the next generation of independent neuroscientists and prepare them to address emerging and impactful questions in the field. The interdisciplinary programme is structured to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in neuroscience from an integrative and transversal perspective - from molecules to synapses, neural circuits, behaviour and computation - using both animal models and real-life experiments with humans.
"The idpIN's main mission is to enable students to chart their paths to groundbreaking discoveries about the brain and related diseases. We want to provide our students not only with an overview of the current state of the art in the area but also with the tools to tackle questions creatively," says Cristina Márquez, co-coordinator of this new Doctoral programme.
The programme features contributions from researchers in both fundamental and applied sciences, as well as physicians who will provide a translational and integrative perspective. The training incorporates various emerging technologies to prepare students for the diverse challenges they may face in their research projects.
IdpIN will be holding an online recruitment day for students on the 24th of February 2025. Registration is open until 14 February here.
