"I am truly honoured to be recognised by the University of Coimbra (UC), an institution that has been absolutely fundamental in my life, both personally and professionally," said Rui Dinis, CEO and Project Director of an international consortium responsible for the new metro line in Medellín, Colombia (Mota-Engil and CRRC Hong Kong). The former UC student and lecturer was installed as a UC Alumni Ambassador during the second welcome session for incoming mobility students for the second semester of the 2024/25 academic year.

With a career spanning more than 20 years and experience on four continents, Rui Dinis says: "I owe the roots of my values to Coimbra and its University. The UC developed my affections, allowed me to get to know the world and sowed in me the seeds of discovery and sharing", adding that "the University of Coimbra is the university par excellence, with a remarkable history, a unique magic and charm, and cutting-edge technical and scientific knowledge".

"It is a well-deserved recognition," says UC Vice Rector for External Relations and Alumni, João Nuno Calvão da Silva. Rui Dinis, a UC Law graduate, is "an alumnus with an outstanding career in management, who has honoured the name of UC worldwide, particularly through collaboration in the fields of language and law". Having Rui Dinis at this second session was "great for these young students to see how studying in Coimbra positively shapes lives" and to inspire them to enjoy the experience.

The UC is welcoming over 600 students in this second semester, bringing the total number of incoming students for the entire 2024/25 academic year to 1,900.
