From 18 to 24 November, the University of Coimbra (UC) will host more than 20 activities for the public of all ages as part of Science and Technology Week.

This year's programme includes book launches, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, guided tours, science walks, laboratory activities and public science communication events, all designed to showcase the research carried out at UC.

The event also aims to introduce the public to UC researchers' diverse backgrounds and show how research is carried out across different fields of knowledge to address societal challenges, such as neuroscience, biology, psychology, history of science, health sciences, biomedicine and geology.

The UC researchers will also visit schools and pre-schools in the city to carry out science outreach activities.

The Science and Technology Week '24 programme, organised by UC through the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, runs until 29 November. Activities are free, but pre-registration is required.

Science and Technology Week is an initiative promoted by Ciência Viva, the Portuguese National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture (Agência Nacional para a Cultura Científica e Tecnológica). It aims to promote Portuguese science by encouraging different organisations to organise events that gather scientists and society, enabling the public to learn about researchers, their work, and how they contribute to advancing knowledge and society's well-being. The national programme of the initiative is available at https://www.cienciaviva.pt/semanact/2024/.
