Department of Informatics Engineering of the University of Coimbra celebrates 30 years of innovation and technology

DEI is holding its 30th anniversary celebration next Monday, 20 January, with a ceremony starting at 14h00.

The Department of Informatics Engineering (DEI) of the University of Coimbra (UC) will celebrate its 30th anniversary next Monday, 20 January, with a ceremony starting at 14:00 in Amphitheatre B1.

The event highlight will be the "Humans and AI: The Journey" conference, delivered by Manuela Veloso, Herbert A. Simon University Professor Emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University and Head of JPMorgan Chase AI Research. In her talk, Veloso will discuss the evolution of human-AI interaction, drawing from her experience in robotics and finance. She will also explore the role of AI as a collaborator in addressing challenges, seizing opportunities, and solving problems, as well as offer insights into the future of this partnership.

There will also be two round tables: 'Teaching and Research in the Age of Artificial Intelligence', with Mário Figueiredo from Instituto Superior Técnico, Henrique Madeira from the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra, and Lino Gonçalves from the Faculty of Medicine at UC and the Coimbra Local Health Unit (ULS); and 'What Are Universities For?' with Francisco C. Pereira from DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Luís Silva from Wit Software, and Paulo Marques from Feedzai, moderated by journalist Tiago Ramalho from Público.

The opening ceremony will be attended by João Pino, President of the Informatics Engineering Student Centre of the Coimbra Academic Association; Jorge Henriques, Director of DEI; Edmundo Monteiro, Director of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at UC; and Amílcar Falcão, Rector of the University of Coimbra.

The ceremony will be closed by Henrique Madeira, Director of CISUC, followed by a porto de honra (a reception with drinks and light refreshments).
