The latest update of the World's Top 2% Scientists List features 91 scientists from the University of Coimbra (UC) among the most cited in 2023, an increase of 14 from 2022.
This comprehensive database provides two separate datasets for career-long and single-year impact metrics. The study was conducted by a team of experts from Stanford University, USA, led by Full Professor John Ioannidis, who is also the ERA Chair of EXCELScIOR, a project based at the University of Coimbra.
The team analysed data from 223,152 scientists worldwide for 2023, of which 889 are affiliated with Portuguese higher education and research institutions.
Separate data were also published for the career-long impact list, with 52 UC researchers among the most cited throughout their careers, out of a total of 217,097 researchers (633 from Portuguese institutions). The University of Coimbra's representation increased by 5 scientists compared to the previous year.
The data in this study, published by Elsevier, were collected from the Scopus database and took into account the indexing, publication, and citation of scientists worldwide.
