The University of Coimbra is a public institution of higher education, with centuries of experience in teaching, training and research, internationally recognised.
Founded in 1290, it was the first and only Portuguese-speaking university until the beginning of the 20th century, having asserted its position with a unique presence that brings together tradition, modernity and innovation, which resulted in its classification as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2013.
